Recipe suggestions: Peri Peri tastes great mixed with tomato sauce on pizza. Delicate as an addition to tomato sauces on pasta or vegetables. Fine as a marinade for beef, vegetable skewers or corn on the cob.

“15 miles south of Mombasa Harbour on the Indian Ocean, on Africa’s tropical east coast, is Diani Beach, home of Mr Mutiaka. He is famous for his Peri Peri sauce, which he serves with grilled prawns, poultry or homemade bread. Tradition has it that Portuguese sailors, who explored the African east coast more than 500 years ago, brought the recipe with them. – However, Mr Mutiaka points out that the Portuguese “borrowed” the recipe from East Africa. . . .“
